  • Three Treasures For Mindful Living - A Pathway To Balance

    Teacher: Bridget Hawkins
    Cost: 2 days accommodation + R400 surcharge
    Dates:

    bridget hawkins2024

In this retreat, we will explore three fundamental areas of our human experience, the three treasures - a healthy body, a happy heart, and a clear and present mind - to create an awareness of and implement techniques for harmony and balance in everyday life. This  relaxed retreat will  incorporate blended sessions of yoga and qigong. We will practise various breathwork and meditative techniques and explore our creativity with an introduction to Neurographic Drawing, a mindful, automatic style of drawing developed by Russian psychologist Pavel Piskarev. The premise is that we are able to rewire our neural pathways when practising this style of meditative drawing. It is a simple therapeutic technique which does not require any artistic experience. We will also take an in-depth look at water crystalography and its spiritual significance by looking at the studies of people like Masaru Emoto and Veda Austin. There will be plenty of time to absorb the stillness of the beautiful surroundings of the BRC with meditative walks and sunset qigong.

Bridget Hawkins has immersed herself in Hatha Yoga for 25 years, teaching both adults and children's yoga for the past 13 years. She teaches a blended form of yoga and qigong, finding that both disciplines have a synchronistic energetic flow that is therapeutic, particularly benefiting those with health issues and injuries. Two years of research into various mindful practices, including neurographic drawing, led Bridget to create a beta program where participants spent a month implementing mindful practices, improved eating habits, exercise, and creative endeavurs. This became the foundation of the Three Treasures Mindful Living program. In 2024, she put the Three Treasures Mindful Living program into booklet form, adding stories to make it a user-friendly guide and useful toolto refer to afetr the retreat.

William (Shogan) has been practising meditation for nearly 20 years, cultivating stillness and inquiry. He took precepts with Dae Chong, Osho at Poplar Grove and now leads morning and evening zazen at the BRC, weaving verses from the Dhammapada into meditation for reflection and insight. With a keen interest in how the Dharma might evolve in an AI-driven, multiplanetary future, William embraces both tradition and possibility. He also guides qigong in the mornings and offers tai chi in the afternoons, integrating movement into mindfulness. His practice is an invitation - to sit, to move, and to explore the ever-expanding nature of awareness.
