Patanjali’s yoga system aims to unite body and mind. According to Patanjali, one can attain this union by calming the ever-arising “vrittis” or agitations in our turbulent mind. In this retreat, you will be introduced to Ashtanga (Eight -limb) Yoga, which will include references to Patanjali’s philosophy, asana (posture), pranayama (breath control) and meditation. This five thousand year-old practice is designed to bring strength, flexibility and endurance to the body and a sense of stillness to the mind. We will also touch briefly on the fundamentals of Ayurveda, the Indian science of life and sister science of yoga. Bring a yoga mat or blanket and comfortable clothing.
