Wesak is celebrated by Buddhists worldwide during the full moon of May. It recalls the Enlightenment of the Buddha, as well as his birth and death. Wesak is an opportunity to reflect on the nature of Enlightenment: release from ignorance and delusion, greed and posessiveness, hatred and aggression. Enlightenment is defined as a “waking up”: insight into the true nature of things and the consequent flowering of compassion, equanimity and magnanimity. This retreat will explore the nature of Enlightenment in poetry, discussions and informal fireside chats, sitting and walking meditation, a candlelight Wesak ceremony and traditional chanting and sky lanterns lighting up the night sky.
