  • Accepting Change - A Yoga Retreat

Teacher: Christine Withiel, Howard Lipschitz and Mags van Staden
    Cost: 3 days accommodation + R400 surcharge
    Dates:

christine2024howard2024The only constant in this life is change and yet we still hold onto everything and everyone. The Buddha, Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita all point to attachment, desire and aversion as sources of our suffering. Our external world is constantly changing and so is our internal world - our body, our thoughts, our feelings and our sense of who we are. So how do we meet these changes rather than resist them? How do we accept what is, adjust to what is unfolding and still find joy, gratitude and contentment amidst the changing circumstances of our lives? Qigong and yoga invite us to meet the body as it is, rather than as we might wish it to be. They give us practical tools to adapt to its changing needs and to cultivate health, balance and vitality in the present moment. Yoga also offers us pranayama, the practice of conscious breathing, which can help to regulate and calm the nervous system, while also awakening and nourishing our experience of prana, the life force that animates us. Meditation offers a way to quieten the mind and create space between our experience and our reactions. Research suggests that regular meditation can bring about measurable changes in the brain, supporting greater calm, resilience and a less reactive way of meeting life. Yoga philosophy takes us deeper, exploring the nature of the mind and offering ways to understand our true nature, our purpose and how we might discover and follow our own unique path through life.

On this retreat we will slow down, create space to reflect and explore these different practices and teachings. We will take what resonates, and what can be woven naturally into our own lives - helping us to meet change with greater ease, find joy in the present moment, and appreciate all that we have.
