atyo_jacobsonThe First Principle of Nia is Joy of Movement. It is a fusion of traditional Martial Art, Dance and ancient Healing Arts which can best be described as a celebration of life through joyful, mindful movement of the body. The aim is to connect to the four elements of nature – Earth, Air, Fire and Water – and to bring this awareness into one’s body movements.  The exercises combine gentle stretching, breath awareness and graceful dance movements, accompanied by soothing music.  These will alternate with meditation sittings.  No previous dance experience is necessary as the body movements are simple and natural.
