The Awakened Man – A Men’s RetreatJohn Homewood, an Integrative Consciousness Coach, is inviting men in transition and searching for deeper meaning and purpose - to join him from 8-10 May. He writes: “What we hold inside - what we think and feel right now - is of vital significance to the unfolding of our future, individually and collectively. Releasing stuck patterns, liberating ourselves from the past, and becoming the conscious creators of our thoughts and feelings opens a new door for us as men to participate in building a new world. As a man, ask yourself honestly: What residual emotional patterns am I still holding on to? What unconscious beliefs are limiting my happiness and success? What does it truly mean to be a man in the world today? Masculinity has always been a fragile identity. Woman is born a woman — a man has to become a man. Prove you are a Man. Show me you are a Man. Be a real Man. — Esther Perel, relationship therapist and NYT bestselling author of Mating in Captivity and The State of Affairs Who am I, really? The challenges we face are often an invitation to a shift. This retreat is that invitation. Over two days, I will work with men on the unique challenges this moment in time presents. Together we will reduce stress and forge a clear new focus and vision; identify and release self-limiting perceptions that no longer serve you; build greater self-knowledge, self-worth and emotional balance and develop the mental and emotional resilience to navigate a rapidly changing world — with a new level of consciousness. I'd love for you to join us. “ With Metta, John Don’t miss John Homewood & Michelle McClunan retreats from 15 - 19 May THE ALCHEMY OF PRESENCE |

Heartfelt ThanksOn behalf of the Committee of the Buddhist Institute of South Africa, who oversees the financial affairs of the Buddhist Retreat Centre and the BRC Family, who manage the daily running of the Centre, we want to express our deepest heartfelt thanks to everyone who responded to our appeal for help. Over February and March, the BRC faced serious challenges after a series of severe lightning strikes caused extensive damage across the property. These were unexpected, costly disruptions and because of your generosity, we have been able to move forward with courage and continuity. In times like these, it becomes profoundly clear that the strength of the Centre is in its community and friends - and - in your kindness and willingness to stand with us when times are difficult. Your generosity is rare, and we are truly grateful. With Metta, Chrisi |

About the BRCPerched on a ridge at the head of a valley in the Umkomaas river system in KwaZulu-Natal, the Buddhist Retreat Centre looks out on a vista of indigenous valleys, forests and rolling hills receding like waves in the blue distance. Here, for forty-six years, people of all religions and none have come to experience peace and tranquillity. It is a gentle, sympathetic space where one can be still and get in touch with oneself and reflect on the things that crowd one's life. The BRC was voted by CNN as one of the ten best meditation centres in the world. The BRC was awarded Natural Heritage status in 1995 under the auspices of the Department of Environmental Affairs and received a certificate to that effect signed by President Nelson Mandela for turning an eroded farm into the natural paradise it has become - thousands of indigenous trees were planted by retreatants under the supervision of Mervyn Croft - with 160 species of birds, including the Blue Swallow, otter, deer, antbear and indigenous forests. The Centre was also given the special status of “Custodian of the Blue Swallow” for its work in preserving the breeding areas of this endangered bird and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife proclaimed part of the estate as “Nirodha Private Nature Reserve” for the conservation of the rare Blue Swallow and Mistbelt Grassland. The BRC facilitated the founding of Woza Moya, the community-based NGO, located in Ufafa Valley, twenty - six years ago, on the estate. Their vision is for all people in the community to be healthy and productive, to live in a safe and clean environment, with good access to services and social justice. The Centre continues to support the organisation by showcasing their crafts in the shop and sponsoring their trainers and consultants. We have been deeply touched by the many generous gifts received in the form of linen and towels, furniture, indigenous trees, a Kenwood mixer and food processor, vacuum cleaners and Buddha statues.
